Welcome to the Sydney Roosters official microsite dedicated to celebrating the club's 100th season in 2007.
The Club's 100th year celebrations have commenced with the following special events:
The 100th Year Season Launch was held on Saturday 10 March, where the Team 100 - The Centurions were announced. The event was attended by almost 1,000 people and marked the beginning of the club's 100th season celebrations.
On Monday 19 March the club played its 1st home game for 2007, against South Sydney, at Aussie Stadium. This game signified the first fixture played under the new Rugby League competition on 20 April, 1908 when the Eastern Suburbs Roosters took on the South Sydney Rabbitohs. The game was attended by over 24,000 people and was one of the highest rating Australian events ever on subscription television.
The Sydney Roosters Gatorade 100th Year Fan Day was held at Henson Park on Sunday 22 April with over 1,500 fans attending. The day was significant as it commemorated the first game the Roosters played, against Newtown, on 20 April, 1908. A re-anactment of this game was played between former greats of both Clubs, including Brad Fittler, Luke Ricketson and Kevin Hastings for the Roosters and Phil Sigsworth, Peter Baumgart and Paul Danes for the Jets.
On Anzac Day, Wednesday, 25 April, the club recorded it's 1000th win against the St George Illawarra Dragons. The Roosters are the first club to reach this milestone and have written themselves into the history books in their 100th season.
The club again reserved a place in the record books when on Saturday 9 June in Round 13 the players recorded the third highest score in a single game. The 64-30 defeat of the Cowboys was the highest score for the Roosters since 1935.
On Tuesday, 21 August, Brad Fittler was named Head Coach of the Sydney Roosters for the 2008/09 seasons after taking over the coaching reigns in the last 8 weeks of the club's 100th season.
The Fittler announcement was followed a week later by Braith Anasta being named the Jack Gibson Medallist at the club's gala awards evening, attended by over 300 guests.
We are attempting to create as many opportunities for supporters, former players and officials to be part of these special celebrations.
